We have already seen some of the tags to optimize in a previous article. This series of three articles is a complement that may be necessary because when you do some research, you find a plethora of different meta tags. So, these articles are made to help you see clearly…

When you start in SEO one of the first things you learn is the use of different meta tags, for better or worse. Indeed, there is a plethora of them, so it is essential to know which ones are essential, which ones can be useful for your site, but not directly for your SEO, and which ones are useless! That’s what we’ll see in this series of three articles.

Indeed, there are other meta tags than the well-known “meta description” and “meta keywords“, but we will come back to them later when we present them (even if they are not in the same category). Remember that these different tags add code and the goal is to have a page with the most visible content.

It is essential to make choices in these tags to optimize them as much as possible and to put only the ones that are necessary and that can be perfectly justified in your SEO strategy. But enough chit-chat, it is only time to start by seeing the tags that have a clear positive impact on your SEO…

The meta tags favorable for your SEO

These meta tags must be present on each of your pages, do not neglect them! The list is short, so you have NO reason to omit them. They are essential!

Content-Type

The first of these tags is also the first one that should appear on your pages. This is Content-Type, for example:

<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8"/>

It allows you to declare the character set you use for the actual encoding of the document. All pages generally have this tag. Without it, the page may take longer to load and some signs may be misunderstood (accented letters for example). This is a tag that is usually created by default that does not require optimization, so there is little to worry about with this one.

Title

Let’s move on to the second tag, which is also an obvious one… Although it does not begin with “meta”, it is the main tag that must be found on all your pages. It must be unique since each page must have a unique title, you will have to understand, that it is the “title” tag, with for example:

<title> This is where to place the main idea of your page</title>.

We will quickly make an article dedicated to it as this tag is so crucial for the SEO of a site and to explain how to optimize it perfectly…

Meta-description

The last meta tag that is essential is the famous “meta description”. It is used to describe the page of a website to allow people to search in the SERPs. However, this tag does not influence the ranking but is very important. Indeed, although it does not control the search engine, it does influence the people who will search for information, since it appears under the link. Try to keep yourself between 140 and 160 characters and write it to attract the attention of potential visitors.

<meta content="This tag is very important to advertise your page! It should help attract
possible visitors to click on your link." name="description">

These different tags are essential for your natural referencing. They must never be omitted and be completed with the utmost care.
